Artist statement

Daniëlle has always been fascinated by the animal kingdom. It fascinates her that humankind has the desire to document, preserve, examine, exhibit, and integrate this beauty in the artificial life of human. She uses this aspect in her work by taxidermize animals herself and making casts of natural objects. The mounted birds Daniëlle uses in her work all originate from aviculture. She is fascinated by humankind keeping animals this way and by having the opportunity to observe them very closely.

Danielle tries to capture the intrinsic beauty of nature in her work and combines this with anthropogenic, industrial materials and references. This symbolises the contrasts between culture and nature and illustrates the traces of humankind on nature. She creates a mysterious, desolate world, in which time seems to be frozen. Both the visual and the theme of her work is made up of multiple layers and in it. Mythical stories, the ancient art, Christian allegory, fables, forgotten objects and specific postures often serve as a starting point. Danielle tries to guide the spectator into her world for just one moment, and to have him search for his own interpretation of what he sees.
